Semedo was born in Grevenmacher to parents who emigrated from Cape Verde, she went on to work at RTL for 22 years as a journalist and a TV host. Later on, she became a member of European Parliament. She is the first Luxembourg MEP of colour and someone who is outspoken about issues faced by the black community in the grand duchy.
