Paperjam has put together a list of the perfect venues for your after-work get-togethers in October. Whether you fancy a drink or a night out, there’s something for everyone.

Player

Félix Weis, a start-up consultant, was looking for a project of his own. He has just opened the first ‘Gamer’ in the country, at the City Concorde: around twenty mini-games strung together in a series of duels, where you have to guess a song whilst pedalling, spot the wrong answer in a quiz, or recreate figures using Lego. Everyone plays at the same time, at their own pace, and a winner eventually emerges. Soft drinks are included, but there’s no food served: the neighbouring restaurants take care of that.

80, route de Longwy, Bertrange

Mixed

Third Moulinex at den Atelier. From 6pm until midnight, DJ Tony, Fritz and Tollekk take turns at the decks, and mobile phones aren’t allowed on the dance floor. Anne Kaiffer serves up vegetarian and meat dishes.

25 September – 54 Rue de Hollerich, Luxembourg (Railway Station)

Brass band

To the Rotondes, for those who like to enjoy a drink with a bit of fanfare. La Buvette, now under the De Gudde Wëllen banner, opens at 5pm: craft beers on tap, cocktails and mocktails, and snacks to nibble on. Then there’s the Grande Salle, where the Luxembourg-Bonnevoie Municipal Brass Band will be playing Daft Punk, New Order and Massive Attack through the lens of brass instruments.

26 September – 3, Place des Rotondes, Luxembourg (Bonnevoie)

Hard

The after-work get-together for night owls kicks off at midnight at den Atelier Six hours with Keepsakes, aka James Barrett, a New Zealander well-versed in Berlin’s club scene: raw, hypnotic techno, tailor-made to last the whole night.

26 September – 48 Rue de Hollerich, Luxembourg (Gare)

Oktoberfest

At the end of September, the Big Beer Company Brewery is kicking off its Oktoberfest again. Haxen, Hendl, Wäinzoossis and pretzels are on the menu, Marco Boesen is singing at the weekend and the DJs are playing until 3am.

Until 30 October – 12, Rives de Clausen, Luxembourg (Clausen)

Dance

Swing Dance Luxembourg takes over the Rotondes’ Buvette for the duration of a social dance. A beginners’ session from 7.30 pm to 8.30 pm, followed by open dancing. Free entry; drinks are at your own expense.

5 October – 2 Place des Rotondes, Luxembourg (Bonnevoie)

Blind

The principle is similar to a blind tasting. At the Philharmonie, we listen to a piece without knowing anything about it, then listen to it again once the explanations have been given, just to gauge the difference. The United Instruments of Lucilin take on the challenge under the baton of Rémi Durupt, with a programme announced from the stage. 75 minutes, no interval.

6 October – 1 Place de l'Europe, Luxembourg (Kirchberg)

Experimental

At the Gudde Wëllen, Jambal, a jazz quartet with a brand-new EP (somewhere between UK jazz and ethno-jazz), followed by Sourcrowd (four musicians from Coles who blend experimental pop, indie and R&B). Time for a drink at the bar, at the bottom of the stairs: doors open at 8 pm, and the show kicks off at 8.30pm at Gudde Wëllen.

9 October – 17 Rue du St Esprit, Luxembourg (City Centre)

Birthday

Kyosk It’s celebrating its fifteenth anniversary and taking the theme to the very end: on 15 October, from 3.15pm to 10.15pm. DJs will be taking turns on the decks, the venue’s own archive footage will be screened, and the photo booth will do the rest. The kitchen is serving up its signature flammekueche. The kiosk has been running Central Park since 2011, with a glass of pastis in one hand and a pétanque ball in the other.

15 October – 10 Rue Léon Hengen, Luxembourg (Kirchberg)

Sporting

Every Thursday at 6.45 pm, FatBetty.Run sets off from The Independent Café for 5 or 10km. A sensible pace, secure changing facilities on site, free of charge. Then head back to the bar for a drink to round it off.

6 Franklin D. Roosevelt Boulevard, Luxembourg (City Centre)

Tasting

Every Friday, Hedonist (Gridx) offers around ten seasonal bottles for free tasting, with no obligation to buy. The wine cellar stays open until 9 pm – the perfect way to round off the week.

4–6 Rue des Trois Cantons, Wickrange
