An der Villa is back in business. Fabio Zullo has won the tender to run the premises and takes over from Thomas Murer; the restaurant is closing, making way for a Mediterranean-Middle Eastern brasserie open every day. In the kitchen, head chef Antonio Alves and sous-chef Carlo Zullo are at the helm. An international menu, a large terrace in the park, and homemade cocktails and lemonades.

Collaboration
Ilario Mosconi is opening its kitchen to Sam Trân, the Michelin-starred chef from Gia in Hanoi, on 16 May. Italian rigour meets Vietnamese precision; two Michelin-starred restaurants, two culinary styles that are worlds apart.

Four hands
Cyril Molard, holder of two Michelin stars at Ma Langue Sourit, now curates the menu at Specto and is hosting a series of special events: with René Mathieu in late April; then, on 8 June, a six-course collaboration with Ryodo Kajiwara focusing on Japanese cuisine. We’re in good hands. As for the daily fare, it’s a well-executed brasserie: carefully crafted sauces, sharp acidity, chuck steak cooked in the Josper; melt-in-the-mouth meat, deep smoky notes, and chips to dip without a second thought.

Delicious
Luxorino is opening a second branch and moving into the city centre. Having been established at the station for two years, Bryan Clain’s brand specialises in Tuscan schiacciata topped with Bolognese mortadella, Iberian chorizo or beef pastrami. New on the menu: an extensive vegan selection, including the beetroot Pinkorino.

Dolce vita
Dodo is making way for Fino, Place d’Armes. At the helm are the former owners of Cheesy – with Neapolitan pizza taking centre stage, a terrace with a Portofino vibe and an extensive menu featuring fish, meat and vegetarian options.

A nostalgic treat
Jean La Gaufre, a fixture at Luxembourg’s fairs since the 1960s, opened its first permanent shop in mid-April at the Niederkorn Mall in Differdange. Waffles are now available all year round.

Design
A hundred years of terraces, three months of building work: the Café de Paris reopens on Place d’Armes in a setting designed by Njoy. Curved Orient-Express-style panelling, a retro-futuristic stainless-steel bar, and a mesmerising illuminated ceiling. In the kitchen, Dominik Ambros serves up classic brasserie fare without any frills. We tried: truffle-mayonnaise devilled eggs, perfectly balanced; a rich and creamy bouchée à la reine, with succulent poultry.

Doughnut

Late Night
The Trianon Bar of the Cravat Hotel is revamping its menu. Chef Mathieu Alegria Silva draws on two sources of inspiration: house classics such as the Croq’ Cravat, and bold Thai-inspired dishes like Lobster Siu Mai and Lemongrass Chicken Dumplings. An added bonus: the kitchen stays open until midnight, which is a game-changer for late diners or those coming out of a concert.

Eco-gastronomy
Kevin Gismondi, former sous-chef to Clovis Degrave at the Chef’s Table, is opening Radix in Florange (France), about fifteen minutes from the Luxembourg border. A family-run, eco-friendly restaurant: he’s in the kitchen, Soline Gismondi (his wife) serves in the dining room. A concise menu updated monthly, featuring local produce and vegetables, with a vegan option always available. A clear commitment to fine dining. Opening in mid-May.
