Cocottes has just opened a new concept: Cocottes Café, which takes the place of La Baraque on Rue Aldringen in the Ville-Haute. It’s the place to go for a good coffee, a pastry or a freshly-made sandwich.

Gone are the good Belgian-style fries with a wide choice of sauces from La Baraque. Make way for Cocottes Café, a new concept in the Cocottes galaxy that promises to sell good coffee and freshly made sandwiches, made right in front of customers.

“I hear that Cocottes Café is Cocottes’ little sister, but it’s actually its little brother,” says Cocottes founder Stéphanie JauquetStéphanie Jauquet, introducing the new location. “The atmosphere here is more urban, with more masculine tones than in our other Cocottes. However, one thing hasn’t changed, and that’s the quality we demand for our products.”

The counter behind which the chips used to be cooked has been slightly modified to accommodate cold products and supplemented by a space to work in front of the window. This is because a large part of the business at this new address is dedicated to making sandwiches, made fresh in front of customers’ eyes. “By doing this, we ensure that the bread remains crisp and the products fresh,” adds Clémentine VenckClémentine Venck, CEO of Cocottes. “Our baguettes are baked on site from dough that is developed for us by Pains et Traditions. It’s also the first time we’ve baked in front of our customers. Until now, all our products were made in our laboratories.”

On the menu, there are classic recipes and other signatures: the Cocottes Bàhn Mì (€11.80), the Notorius PIG (pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw, cheddar, pickled onions, €12.40), the Signature mayo (with tuna spread, herbs, salad, mimosa egg, beefsteak tomato, €8.80) or La French Baguette (organic smoked ham from Luxembourg, Comté cheese matured for 30 months, salad, gherkins, semi-salted butter, €13.20). In around three weeks, customers will be able to order made-to-measure sandwiches and choose their bread, protein and topping.

Coffees and treats

As well as sandwiches, the other big attraction of the address is the sale of coffee and other drinks, hot or cold, to take away or to enjoy on the spot.

“Consumption habits are changing and customers are increasingly looking for quality coffees, signature drinks, with more special features,” explains Venck. “That’s what we offer here with, for example, the Golden Milk, which contains ginger and turmeric, or the Purple Latte, made from purple sweet potatoes, which has a very pleasant round flavour with a hint of vanilla.”

The café is open all day and suggestions for breakfast are also on offer: choice of different pastries (croissants, pains au chocolat, cinnamon rolls...), avocado toasts, pancakes, fried eggs or mini sandwiches.

In the afternoon, it is also possible to sit down and enjoy your drink with a slice of cake, a cookie or a Liège waffle.

Once a month, DJ sets will be organised to liven up the venue. The first is scheduled for Saturday 7 June from 2pm to 6pm.

15 Rue Aldringen, Luxembourg. Open Monday to Saturday from 7am to 6pm and Sunday from 9am to 4pm.
