Every week, Foodzilla brings you addresses based around a theme or neighbourhood. This week, we tell you where to enjoy good--really good--sandwiches.

Lamie

Lamie may make you fall in love at first sight. This traditional sandwich shop has set up shop in the Merl district (in Bertrand’s Atelier, for those who know where that is) and takes the art of the sandwich to a different level from what is usually on offer in Luxembourg. Lamie is run by two young women, long-time friends Anne and Emilie, who have decided to focus on taste, freshness and quality. Everything to seduce us! Cheeses and charcuterie from Frères Marchand (Metz), bread specially baked by Kaempff-Kohler, and all sandwiches are made to order so that everything is perfectly crunchy, fresh, hot and tasty.

Take the BCJ, for example: baguette, AOP Comté cheese that’s been aged 18 months, ham and slightly salted churned butter. Or the Pastramie: rustic sourdough bread, beef pastrami, cheddar and mustard mayonnaise. Tested and approved--a real delight! You can also put together your own sandwiches, with the “My Sandwish” formula, or order a small extra dish such as a green salad, grated carrots or soup. Seasonal suggestions are added to the set menu. For dessert, don’t miss out on the cookie--it’s delicious! Tip: it’s also possible to order boxes for business lunches.

Oné Toast Bar

Here, the sandwiches are hot and feature Asian elements. The recipes are gourmet, the bread is toasted, everything is made fresh and the quality is top-notch, thanks to Chong Chen (ex-co-owner of the Mont Saint-Lambert), who wanted a restaurant that reflected his image. On the menu: Bánh Mì, lobster roll or chicken teriyaki... For those who don’t fancy sandwiches, there are also a few suggestions for Asian dishes, soups and starters. And for those who want to enjoy the moment and eat quietly on the spot, the decor is comfortable, with manga and video game influences.

Luxorino: Latino street food

A Latino-inspired sandwich shop, a schiacciateria at the crossroads of Italy, Spain, Portugal and Brazil. The sandwiches are made with soft, crusty bread, homemade with olive oil, akin to focaccia and topped with cold meats and typical products from the various countries mentioned: mortadella, chorizo, pistachio pesto, queso manchego, prosciutto di San Daniele, mozzarella fior di late, bola de neige, peito de frango... You can make your own sandwiches on the spot or choose from pre-composed recipes.

La Grocerie

In the heart of Grund, La Grocerie’s sandwiches are made from pizza dough and generously filled with seasonal produce. These “Mezzocuore” can be meat, fish or vegetarian, so there’s something for everyone. To complete the offer, there’s a fine wine cellar specialising in natural wines (over 200 references) and a counter where you can buy bread, cheese and charcuterie--all homemade of course. A few tables are available in a neighbourhood bistro style, as well as a mini terrace on the cobbled pavement.
