ArcelorMittal’s Ukrainian site was directly hit by a missile strike over the weekend of 15 August. On Monday 17 August, the steel group announced the deaths of two people: one of its own employees and an employee of a subcontractor. Thirteen employees of ArcelorMittal and partner companies were also injured.

At the time of the attack, the ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih plant was in operation. The strike damaged key production facilities relating to power generation and blast furnaces, causing a partial halt to production processes.

The extent of the impact on industrial operations remains to be determined. Experts are currently assessing the damage as well as “the possibilities and timetable for resuming operations”, according to the group, which is headquartered in Luxembourg. No financial estimate of the damage or a date for the site to return to normal operations has been provided at this stage.
