Aura, Era, Evo. In Shanghai, Volkswagen is no longer hiding its ambitions for China. “In China, for China” will mean 30 new models by the end of 2027, including 20 new-energy models, a new category that includes 100% electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids and energy-extending vehicles. These already have another special feature: automated driving systems boosted by artificial intelligence, capable of taking the place of drivers when overtaking, cornering and merging into traffic, “under the driver’s supervision,” says the German brand.
This is particularly the case for the ID.Aura, based on the compact main platform specifically designed for the Chinese market. The other two are not to be outdone: the ID.Era is the first model with an energy extender (the fuel-powered generator recharges the battery while driving) offering a range of 700km; the ID.Evo is the first 100% electric family SUV, designed for young buyers. With 34 months to go from idea to production, it’s certain that it won’t be long before these models arrive on the European market too.
