Found on the first floor of the shopping centre in Esch-Alzette, the post office will offer all Post services to customers--telecom, mail and financial services. Longer opening hours have also been announced, with the shop welcoming visitors from 9am to 7pm on weekdays and 9am to 6pm on Saturday.
While the Post group in a press release on 21 April revealed the opening of this new store, describing it as “a modern, user-friendly and easily accessible concept”, it also confirmed the Belvaux post office would permanently close on 22 April. Locals will, however, still be able access certain services such as mail packaging sales, in the Point Post of the Librairie de l’Ecole, the company said.
This news comes a few days after the . The union had said this decision would affect the elderly, who rely heavily on in-person postal services.
The Post's reorganisation, which started in 2015, is intended implement extended opening hours, better customer service and a central location and a simpler access by public transport.
The group stated that it was difficult to implement longer opening hours in small post offices, and that elderly people could resort to its letter carrier services. This would allow them to receive services for free.
