Integrasys is strengthening its foothold in the defence sector in Luxembourg. The Spanish technology company announced on Tuesday 18 August that it had secured two research and development projects worth a total of €2.89m. It will lead the first project and act as a technology partner on the second.
Both projects were selected as part of a joint funding initiative by the Luxembourg Ministries of Defence, the Economy and Research. What they have in common is the protection of critical infrastructure against threats to communications and space assets.
Named ‘Depcon’, short for ‘Defence Communications Protection’, the first project will be led by Integrasys, in collaboration with the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (List). The aim is to develop a system capable of automatically detecting and responding to threats to critical communications. The system is designed to cover interference affecting terrestrial, radio and satellite networks.

The second project, Hydra, brings together LMO Space, Integrasys and the List to protect strategic satellites in geostationary orbit. The partners intend to combine optical and radio-frequency sensors, on-board intelligent processing and secure inter-satellite links. The system will be required to identify and process threats in real time, ranging from electronic jamming to the presence of hostile satellites.
Integrasys took part in the call for proposals through its Luxembourg subsidiary, which is home to one of its five European centres of excellence. The other four are based in the United Kingdom, France, Ukraine and Germany. With 35 years’ experience in technologies relating to radio spectrum, communications, positioning and multi-domain intelligence, the company has over 100 employees and 11 offices worldwide.
According to Álvaro Sánchez, CEO of Integrasys, these two projects should enable the company “to accelerate innovation, expand [its] R&D capabilities and help strengthen the European defence ecosystem”, with a particular focus on the protection of critical communications and space assets.
