Early after the torrential rain and flooding that hit several regions of the country on the night of 8 to 9 September, insurance companies activated their crisis plans to absorb the peak of activity and quickly come to the aid of policyholders and “from the first day, several hundred claims were registered”, announced the ACA (Association des compagnies d’assurances et de réassurances du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg) in a press release published this Friday 12 September.

At this stage, ACA member companies report that more than 1,000 cases have already been opened. 85% of these relate to the home sector and around 15% to the motor sector. “Given that the situation is still evolving, it is difficult to put forward a consolidated figure. However, initial conservative estimates point to more than €8 million in insured damage,” continued the ACA, which has 141 members, in its press release.

“Further claims are expected to be reported in the coming days and financial estimates will be adjusted accordingly. Luxembourg insurers reaffirm their commitment to stand by flood victims and to ensure that claims are handled quickly and efficiently.”
