How is AI concretely transforming the day-to-day work of professionals in asset management and asset servicing?
Melanie Moos. – “AI has already moved from experimentation into day-to-day operations. In asset servicing, the examples are very concrete: prospectuses and complex documents can be read and analysed automatically, reconciliations completed in seconds, and oversight can move from periodic controls to something that runs continuously. But the bigger change is where people add value.
Professionals will spend less time gathering information, comparing data and performing repetitive controls, and more time interpreting exceptions, exercising judgment and taking responsibility for decisions. So I don’t see AI simply as replacing people. The work will change. The institutions that benefit most will be those that understand that change early and redesign their processes around it.
Are innovation and regulation truly compatible in European finance?
“They have to be. In financial services, trust and innovation cannot be separated. AI is extraordinarily powerful, but the model itself is only part of the equation. What matters just as much is the structure around it: permissions, evidence, audit trails, controls and human accountability. I think this can become a European strength.
Europe should not try to stop technological change, but neither should we simply let technology determine where we go.We need to understand it deeply enough to shape how it is used. Regulation, done well, can provide the trust that allows innovation to scale. The objective should not be innovation or regulation. It should be innovation with accountability.
What are your top recommendations for investors right now?
“First, don’t be a spectator. We are still at the beginning of this technological shift, so invest in understanding it – not just what AI can do today, but how quickly it is evolving and what that means for the businesses you invest in.
Second, look beyond the model. Models are becoming more powerful, accessible and increasingly commoditised. Durable value may sit around them: in proprietary data, trusted workflows, distribution, infrastructure and controls.
Finally, don’t confuse disruption with destruction. Luxembourg has been through major waves of change before. The organisations that emerged stronger were those willing to adapt, invest and rethink how they operated. I believe the same will be true with AI.”
