In Luxembourg, several leading organisations have recently fallen victim to cyberattacks. "These players, despite being presumed well-protected, were not spared," notes Isaak Dayan, CEO of Dartalis.

Their digital infrastructures could not withstand the assault of determined cybercriminals. And their motivations are not always financial: they can be political or ideological. The conflict in Ukraine has indeed highlighted the growing importance of online disinformation campaigns.

However, faced with the ever-evolving regulatory landscape, most report a lack of human and technical resources to achieve compliance. This talent shortage has intensified further after the Covid-19 pandemic, as remote working now enables many experts to work from home for their country of origin. Recruitment is a sensitive issue today, and digital security firms are not immune.

Data Versus AI

If data is the new oil, it is its processing by Artificial Intelligence that deserves our full attention. "Faced with the mountain of data produced daily, AI is invaluable in extracting meaningful information and results," confirms the CEO. The problem is that cybercriminals have understood this too and are ahead of the curve. "AI-powered phishing attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, whereas they were easy to identify barely 10 years ago," insists Isaak Dayan.

Everyone also has in mind the deepfakes circulating online, where a country's President, for example, can be made to say anything in a credible manner. In such scenarios, humans remain the weak link, when they should be educated to question what they see.

Diversifying Sources

"Relying on a single major provider for your IT equipment and services is not advisable," confirms Isaak Dayan. To put it more directly, if you have entrusted your entire digital infrastructure to a single ICT service provider, the day it is attacked, your entire business becomes vulnerable as well. In this regard, adopting a multi-vendor approach is recommended, even for the mid-sized companies. This strategic vision will be critical in the coming years.
