For one evening, the square metres took a back seat to the people who bring them to life. On Thursday 1 October, the Lux Real Estate Awards, organised jointly by LuxReal and Paperjam, brought together key players in the property sector in Mondorf-les-Bains. It was an opportunity to celebrate projects, recognise outstanding careers and remind everyone that, behind the plans and figures, it is people who are making things happen.

In a sector still searching for a new lease of life, the evening had a certain comforting quality: an opportunity to get together with peers, to discover achievements, to recognise commitment, and to find a few good reasons to look to the future. Between the award ceremonies and the conversations around the tables, one common concern kept cropping up: how can we regain confidence and carry on with our projects in a market that has changed?

Present to open the ceremony was the minister for housing and spatial planning, Claude Meisch Claude Meisch (DP), who emphasised that the recovery would be achieved collectively. “Public support, investor engagement, tailoring projects to needs: everyone has a part to play,” he insisted. This message was given concrete expression in the achievements recognised throughout the evening.

From offices to living spaces

The Best Office Project award went to Unicity. Situated opposite Luxembourg railway station, the building combines the preservation of architectural heritage with a contemporary extension. Its golden façade gives it a distinctive presence in the neighbourhood, whilst its environmental ambitions and location meet the current expectations of businesses. A project that illustrates how to develop existing structures by giving them new uses.

In the housing category, the Domaine des Vignes has won the Best Residential Project award. In Mertert, this residential neighbourhood blends seamlessly into the landscape of the Luxembourg Moselle region. The project presentation highlighted the work carried out on its urban planning and architecture, with a focus on how residents will be able to make the area their own. After all, a neighbourhood is also judged by what happens between the buildings.

The Best Living Together award has been presented to Gravity in Differdange. This category poses a very practical question: how can we design spaces that facilitate social interaction and shared daily life? At a time when life paths and household structures are becoming increasingly diverse, communal spaces and services are playing an ever-greater role in property planning.

Investing and expanding in a challenging market

The Giorgetti Group, named ‘Investor of the Year’, was praised for its ability to invest during a period of uncertainty. Against a backdrop of rising costs and a slowdown in investment, the group’s concrete commitment was hailed as a sign of confidence in the country’s economic future.

The CEO of IKO Real Estate, Sandra HuberSandra Huber, received the Promoter/Developer of the Year award. The award recognises a vision of development that focuses on the creation of neighbourhoods, their integration into the wider community and their quality of life. The discussion on the regeneration of brownfield sites served as a reminder of the scale of such projects: planning housing, transport, communal spaces and a new neighbourhood’s place within the city requires time, perseverance and a great deal of determination.

The Best Fund award was presented to LaSalle Investment Management. This accolade highlights the role of property funds within the Luxembourg ecosystem and their contribution to the development of projects across Europe. It offers another way to play a part in the transformation of buildings and regions through investment choices that are committed to the long term.

The Cloche d’Or and Roland Kuhn take centre stage

The jury’s special prize recognises Promobe and Nextensa for the development of the Cloche d’Or district, led by their joint venture Grossfeld. Housing, offices, shops, amenities and green spaces: the award recognises the creation of a genuine living neighbourhood. The award presentation emphasised this development: a place where people come to work, shop and take a stroll, but also to live and enjoy life at a leisurely pace. The jury thus recognised the urban development as a whole.

Finally, the director of Kuhn Construction, Roland KuhnRoland Kuhn, has been named Personality of the Year. This is a tribute to a long and distinguished career within a family business, dedicated to the construction and craft industries in Luxembourg.

Visibly moved, Roland Kuhn shared this recognition with those who are driving the sector forward. His speech highlighted the close link between property development and construction: the former provides a vision, whilst the latter brings it to life. He also called for continued efforts in the areas of funding, land acquisition and procedures, to enable projects to be realised and meet housing needs.

Once the trophies had been presented, the conversations continued in a very warm atmosphere. Against the backdrop of the market’s challenges, of course, but also fuelled by ideas, new connections and a desire to carry on. Everyone parted ways hoping to meet again in 377 days’ time, at the next Real Estate Awards in 2027.

Paperjam will certainly be reporting in more detail on the winners, their projects and the outstanding careers recognised at the 2026 edition.
