Watchmakers are competing to celebrate the start of the lunar year of the fire horse on 17 February. Red, a highly symbolic colour in Chinese celebrations, dominates.

Could the watch created for polo practice overlook the year of the horse? Here, the horse is engraved on the back of the watch, appearing to emerge from golden clouds in an opaque black Grand Feu enamel decoration. The black enamel dial follows Art Nouveau codes.

IWC equips its Portugieser with a flamboyant burgundy dial. A lacquered dial manufactured using a special process. The transparent caseback reveals the oscillating weight of the gold-plated movement in the shape of a galloping horse. Limited edition of 500.

For the Year of the Horse, Longines is publishing a limited edition of 2,026 pieces of its Master. The programme includes a deep red dial, brushed in a sunray pattern, enhanced by dark gradations on the periphery, a moon-phase complication and an engraving inspired by the work "Galloping Horse" on the rotor.

To celebrate the Year of the Horse, Swatch called on the former resident artist of the Swatch Art Peace Hotel, Yu Wenjie. The dial in a transparent matte case hosts two horses against a colourful background decorated with flames and clouds, a motif that continues on the multicoloured strap.
