“Objet A”, directed by Ann Oren, is part of the Concorso Internazionale, the festival’s main competition. This production by Tarantula Luxembourg, produced in collaboration with German and Greek partners, is in the running for the Golden Leopard. The film also features significant Luxembourgish involvement in key artistic and technical roles, ranging from set design and the original score to sound, costumes, make-up and dialogue editing.
In addition to the screenings, the Film Fund Luxembourg will be a partner of “Open Doors”, the Locarno Pro industry programme dedicated to talent development and international collaboration in regions where creative conditions are more challenging. This year, the initiative is dedicated to 42 countries on the African continent. In collaboration with Eave, the Film Fund will also fund a grant enabling one of the selected producers to take part in the Eave Marketing Workshop, to be held in Luxembourg in November.
Two more films in the parallel sections
Luxembourg will also be represented in the new Locarno Kids Screenings competition with the animated feature film “New York, Miriam and Me (Children of Liberty)”, directed by Rémy Schaepman and Léahn Vivier-Chapas. Co-produced by Mélusine Productions with France, the film continues its run at international festivals following its selection at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. This new competitive section showcases films aimed at young audiences.
Finally, “Death Has No Master” will be screened in the non-competitive “Histoire(s) du cinéma” section. Directed by Jorge Thielen Armand, this drama is a co-production between Deal Productions and partners from Venezuela, Canada and Italy. The feature film was screened earlier this year at the “Quinzaine des cinéastes” section of the Cannes Film Festival. Its lead actress, Asia Argento, will receive a Life Achievement Award on this occasion.
