For the chair of the board of directors of the Luxembourg Centre for Architecture (Luca), Marie Lucas, this edition marks a shift in the way awards are presented. “We wanted to present an exhibition for the Luxembourg Architecture Awards that was consistent with the jury’s work and paid full tribute to the architects.” The chair of Luca’s board of directors praised “an extremely original and high-quality exhibition”, the result of the work of a young team that had been working on it for several months.

The jury has selected the winners, but everyone who took the time to put together an application deserves to be commended.

Knowing how to recognise, knowing how to honour, knowing how to thank

Her brief speech on Friday 3 July, at the exhibition’s opening, focused on expressing her heartfelt thanks to all those involved. “The jury has selected the winners, but everyone who took the time to put together an entry deserves to be commended.” She also extended her gratitude to the Luca team, whom she warmly congratulated on their dedication.

Marie Lucas finally highlighted another of the institution’s ambitions: to expand its documentation and publications on architecture. This work, she said, constitutes “a further bridge to better convey architectural culture”.

For her part, the director of the Luca and curator of the exhibition, Maribel Casas, pointed out that the Luxembourg Architecture Awards are about much more than simply presenting a trophy. “The award is far more than an honorary recognition. It is a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness of architectural quality.”

The director thanked the architects, who had agreed to lend models, sketches and drawings – all of which help visitors to gain a practical understanding of how a project comes about. “Showing how architects work is essential for us.”

The exhibition thus aims to reflect a profession in flux. Maribel Casas describes it as “a sort of seismograph of architecture, or an electrocardiogram of the profession”, offering a snapshot of contemporary architectural creation in Luxembourg. Ultimately, it is an invitation to look at buildings in a new light, by discovering the ideas, research and processes that gave rise to them.

Practical information. “Luxembourg Architecture Award: The Stories Behind the Projects” is on display from 4 July until 10 October 2026 at the Luca, Rue de la Tour Jacob, in Luxembourg City.
