Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and Enerdeal inaugurated a new solar installation at the Goodyear sites in Colmar-Berg on Tuesday, in the presence of the Minister for the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles.
Signed in 2024, the project represents a total solar capacity of 7MWp, including 5MWp on the roofs of the production plant and innovation centre, and 2MWp on shades covering the centre's car park. These infrastructures will produce 6.5GWh of electricity per year, consumed directly on site to power the Group's day-to-day operations. This corresponds to the annual consumption of around 1,600 Luxembourg households.
Goodyear's Manufacturing Luxembourg Director, Alex Schumann, highlights the importance of the project in the group's sustainability strategy: "Goodyear has set a global goal to transition its manufacturing operations and processes to 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030 and 100 percent renewable energy by 2040. Today's announcement brings us closer to that goal."
This plant complements several initiatives already in place at Colmar-Berg, including the photovoltaic carport on the proving ground and the plant on the roof of the mould factory. It is part of a series of investments aimed at achieving 100% renewable energy across all production sites by 2040.

Enerdeal's country manager, François Neu, highlights the environmental and industrial impact of this collaboration: "It is an honour for us to work with a major industrial player like Goodyear and to inaugurate this project. These photovoltaic systems enable large-scale solar capacity to be deployed efficiently, generate significant reductions in local emissions and demonstrate how this type of collaboration can advance Luxembourg's energy transition."
The Minister for the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, welcomed a concrete commitment: "I welcome Goodyear's commitment to photovoltaics since 2021. This new project, carried out in collaboration with Enerdeal, will produce around 6.5 GWh of renewable electricity per year, consumed directly at the Colmar-Berg site. Thanks to initiatives such as these, Luxembourg is making concrete progress towards its climate objectives."
In 2024, the group returned to a net profit of $70 million, buoyed by its "Goodyear Forward" transformation programme aimed at optimising costs, disposing of non-strategic assets and reducing debt.
Goodyear, which employs nearly 68,000 people in 19 countries, thus confirms its long-term commitment to sustainable and responsible production. As for Enerdeal, a subsidiary of the EDP Group, it is strengthening its presence in Luxembourg, with over 15 years' experience in decentralised solar projects.
