Every month, Luxembourg’s food scene is buzzing, expanding and reinventing itself. New restaurants, groundbreaking concepts, chefs moving to new venues, eagerly awaited openings and triumphant comebacks: here’s what you need to know to stay up to date – and, above all, to know where to book a table, raise a glass or tuck in first.

Bistro punk

On Place des Capucins, the former Café des Capucins (a Luxembourg institution that has had several incarnations) has found a new lease of life under the name Bistro des Capucins. The team from Bonne Nouvelle (Davide Sorvillo, Joseph Siebenaler and Mathias Hameeuw) have set up shop there with chef Roberto Prado, serving Parisian brasserie cuisine with punk and American influences: offal, seasonal produce and 95% natural wines. The décor is inspired by the 1980s, somewhere between Berlin and New York.

Bouchon

A year on already, and everything’s going swimmingly. Le Q dans le beurre has found its audience with the dishes that define the restaurant: pâtés en croûte made without nitrite salt, blanquette, bourguignon, and a shared casserole of suckling pig shoulder. To celebrate the anniversary, a six-handed dinner is being held on June 1 with François Jagut and Leonardo De Paoli. The summer will bring a few minor adjustments to the seasonal menu. As for the butter, that remains unchanged.

Transmission

At Cômo, Renato FavaroRenato Favaro is still in the kitchen, but Daniel and Evie, his son and daughter-in-law, moved into the house in January to help plan the next steps. Having swapped his Michelin star for a more generous, family-style cuisine, he hasn’t compromised on quality: casoncelli al dente, Osvaldo’s prosciutto crudo, and fettuccine with morel mushrooms and asparagus.

A star on the golf course

Julien LucasJulien Lucas (La Villa de Camille et Julien) will take over the kitchens at the Grand Ducal Golf Club in January 2027, without closing La Villa. Two concepts are planned: a seasonal brasserie serving classic dishes and a fine-dining area in the style of La Villa. The cuisine will be designed with members in mind, whilst reflecting the chef’s signature style.

On board

Anne KnepperAnne Knepper (Public House) has created the summer menus for Luxair’s business class. On the menu: smoked trout and buckwheat, stuffed courgette flowers, and cheeses and ham from Luxembourg. His signature touch: local and seasonal ingredients, even at an altitude of 10,000 metres.

Organic and local

Following the closure of its restaurant in Bonnevoie, Alavita is opening its fifth branch in Bridel. What sets this new branch apart from the others is a café area serving homemade dishes to eat in.

A new lease of life

The restaurant at the Ibis Airport Hotel is getting a makeover and a new name. The Hive focuses on seasonal brasserie cuisine, using local and home-made ingredients, under the guidance of chef Christophe Mannebach.

Open-air café

Kirchberg’s most popular terrace is back in action. Le Kyosk is relaunching its themed lunches: Asian street food in May, European cuisine in June. Weather permitting, as always.

Address: 10 rue Léon Hengen, Luxembourg (Kirchberg)

Minivan

The Chez Ugo food truck is also back in business in Kirchberg. The van serves Belgian-Luxembourgish street food, beers, cocktails and entertainment in an open-air setting.

Sandwich

Charles Sandwiches is opening a third outlet in Junglinster, at the Langwies 2 shopping centre. New York-style pastrami, Philly cheesesteaks and smash burgers are finally making their way out of the capital.

Address: 7 rue Nicolas Glesener, Junglinster

Master sauce maker

He is 33 years old, has three MOF chefs in his address book and one obsession: sauces. Alexandre Delamarre arrives at SixSeven with a classic, unpretentious take on French cuisine (asparagus with morel mushrooms, turbot in a matelote sauce, lamb en croûte, monkfish with chorizo). Skillful technique, rich flavours and a panoramic view of the city. A new summer menu from mid-May.
