12,585 cars were registered in Luxembourg in the second quarter of 2024, barely more than in the first quarter.

Car sales in Luxembourg did not take off much in the second quarter of 2024. With 12,585 cars registered, the increase on the first quarter was not even 1%.

In the first half of 2024, a total of 25,085 new cars were sold. This is slightly down (5.32%) compared to the first half of 2023, when 26,494 cars were registered.

As in Q1, Volkswagen, BMW and Mercedes were the best selling car brands in Q2 2024. Audi, Skoda and Renault followed close behind. The Korean brand Kia moved into seventh place. Tesla and Hyundai both lost two places, while Volvo gained two. Unsurprisingly, German brands dominated sales in the second quarter of the year.

In terms of the best-selling car models, Tesla once again succeeded in imposing its two models, the 3 and the Y. Volkswagen kept three of its models in the top with its Golf, Tiguan and Caddy. The Fiat 500 sold well in the second quarter, taking its place on the podium. Volvo’s EX30, Skoda’s Kodiaq, Audi’s Q3 Sportback and Opel’s Corsa are also among the top 10.

Both petrol and 100% electric cars did better than in the previous quarter. Diesel vehicles and hybrids (with or without plug-in) sold slightly less than last quarter. Petrol cars accounted for almost a third of registrations, while 100% electric cars accounted for almost a quarter.
