The Venice International Film Festival, which runs from 28 August to 7 September, has included five XR (extended reality) works from Luxembourg in its selection for the XR Venice Immersive competition.
They are:
- Ceci est mon cœur by Nicolas Blies and Stéphane Hueber-Blies: a predominantly Luxembourg production by a_BAHN (François Le Gall and Marion Guth) including France.
- Oto's Planet by Gwenael François: a mainly Luxembourg production by Skill Lab (Julien Becker) involving Quebec and France.
- Mamie Lou by Isabelle Andréani: a Skill Lab (Julien Becker) co-production with France.
- Ito Meikyu by Boris Labbé, a Les Films Fauves coproduction (Gilles Chanial and Govinda Van Maele) with France.
- Champ de Bataille by François Vautier, a Digital Voodooh co-production (Fred Neuen and Mark Mertens) with France and Belgium.
The jury for this section is made up of Celine Daemen, Marion Burger and Adriaan Lokman. They will be awarding three prizes: the Grand Jury Prize, the Best Experience Prize and the Best Story Prize.
All the works selected will be presented for the first time at Venice Immersive Island, an island in Lazzaretto Vecchio specially dedicated to immersive works in all their forms. It will bring together all the festival's XR activities, including immersive installations, viewing stations, conference and networking rooms, as well as a social area. The Film Fund Luxembourg will be represented there with a joint stand with French-speaking Belgium under the name “The Center of Attraction”.
Luxembourg will also be present with other XR projects co-produced and presented at the Gap Financing Market, as part of the Venice Production Bridge (29 August - 3 September). This is the film market of the Venice International Film Festival, whose specificity lies in its focus on production and in offering a wide range of services, projects and networking opportunities to international audiovisual and immersive producers.
