From 8 to 10 July 2026, the CHL will host the very first congress of the Robotic Global Surgical Society (TROGSS), dedicated to innovations in robotic and minimally invasive surgery. More than 200 surgeons from over 30 countries and four continents will be attending.

Under the theme ‘Technology and Education’, this inaugural event will highlight the innovations that are currently transforming minimally invasive surgery, whilst fostering the transfer of knowledge between generations of practitioners.

For Dr B. Pascotto – Congress President and Chair of the Education Committee at TROGSS, and Head of the Department of General, gastrointestinal, vascular, thoracic and endocrine surgery at the CHL – the organisation of this first congress in Luxembourg represents a major milestone for this young learned society: “Having organised several webinars and participated in numerous international congresses, TROGSS is strengthening its presence on the international stage by organising its first congress. The choice of Luxembourg as the host city is a significant recognition for the CHL and for our country.”

Dr J.S. Azagra, currently a visiting doctor at the CHL and former head of the surgery department, was appointed last year as TROGSS’s first honorary member. This honour once again recognises his exceptional contribution to the development of minimally invasive surgery, of which he is one of the international pioneers, in both laparoscopy and robotic surgery.

In recognition of his career and his global scientific influence, Dr J.S. Azagra will also serve as honorary president of the first TROGSS congress.

The organising committee also includes leading figures from the international surgical community, including Professor Rodolfo J. Oviedo (United States), CEO of TROGSS, and Dr Adel Abou-Mrad (France), the society’s president.

Three-day programme

8 July will be a pre-conference day focusing on technical training, simulation and the development of surgical skills.

On 9 and 10 July, the main conference will bring together internationally renowned experts for a rich and multidisciplinary scientific programme. Lectures, expert presentations and scientific discussions will provide an opportunity to explore the latest developments in robotic, endoscopic, laparoscopic and magnetic surgery, as well as the trends shaping the future of minimally invasive surgery.

Dr B. Pascotto explains: “Whilst robotic surgery will take centre stage in the discussions, the congress will also address several major issues in contemporary minimally invasive surgery. Advanced interventional endoscopy will feature prominently, notably through sessions dedicated to bariatric endoscopy and the endoscopic management of gastrointestinal complications. Technological innovations will also be at the heart of the discussions, including a lecture on magnetic surgery.”
