Spire Global, a provider of space-based data, analytics and services with its European headquarters in Luxembourg City, has appointed Eric Mellinger as chief commercial officer. From 3 August, he will lead the company’s global sales organisation with a view to accelerating its growth in the government and commercial markets.

Spire Global, a provider of space-based data, analytics and services, has appointed Eric Mellinger as chief commercial officer. He will take up his post on 3 August 2026 and will lead the company’s global commercial organisation. Spire, whose European headquarters have been based in Luxembourg City since 2017, has entrusted him with responsibility for go-to-market strategy, business development, sales, strategic partnerships and initiatives aimed at expanding its presence in government and commercial markets.

Before joining Spire, Eric Mellinger held the position of vice president for Business Development & Growth Leader at ManTech International, in the defence and aerospace sector. There, he led a team responsible for an annual commercial portfolio of over $4bn and helped secure more than $2.5bn in contracts. He was also involved in developing partnerships with Anduril, AWS, Google, IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Palantir and SpaceX, whilst supporting the expansion of the company’s operations in the Indo-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, and Central and South America.

A 30-year career in the US Marines

Prior to joining ManTech, Eric Mellinger worked for the US House of Representatives Armed Services Committee on issues relating to military procurement reform. He previously served for 30 years in the US Marine Corps, which he left with the rank of colonel after holding various command and strategic posts around the world.

Eric Mellinger, for his part, says he wants to “accelerate growth, strengthen the commercial strategy and expand the impact of Spire’s technology in the government and commercial markets”.
