Created in 2023, Mistral AI has rapidly established itself as one of Europe’s most serious challengers to OpenAI or Anthropic. In just a few months, the startup raised substantial funds and launched “Le Chat,” its conversational assistant, which was downloaded more than a million times in a fortnight when it was launched on mobile in February. There was also, of course, the partnership signed with the Luxembourg government and announced at the Nexus tech event in mid-June.
With this new partnership, NTT Data intends to combine the technological and industrial expertise of its teams with the power of Mistral AI’s open-source models. Together, they will co-develop a private and sovereign AI stack capable of meeting the specific needs of businesses, particularly in the fields of finance, insurance, defence and the public sector.
In contrast to pre-existing solutions, this collaboration aims to create a complete technology stack, from data centres to business applications, including infrastructure, models and interfaces. The aim is to guarantee customers complete control over their data, in an open architecture that can be interpreted and complies with emerging standards in terms of ethics and digital sovereignty.
“The aim is not to integrate a turnkey solution, but to build together, for each customer, an AI that is adapted, secure and responsible,” say the two partners.
Project governance will be decided on a case-by-case basis: the stack may be carried by Mistral, by NTT Data, or be co-owned. The same applies to marketing, which may be handled by one or other of the parties, or jointly. To realise this ambition, the two partners are jointly investing in a dedicated centre of excellence and a joint go-to-market plan, mobilising joint teams to support customers in deploying and adopting these technologies. While the solution is already available, it will be customised on a project-by-project basis, with no specific standard development by Mistral for NTT.
Among the first collaborations already underway, Dennemeyer, a global player in intellectual property management, has chosen to work with NTT Data and Mistral AI to integrate these new artificial intelligence bricks into its processes.
