Luxembourg has ranked 66th out of 133 cities in the most recent “Worldwide cost of living survey”, compiled by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
Living in the Grand Duchy’s capital is about 70% as expensive as in New York City, said the EIU, a research firm that is part of the same group as the Economist magazine. That makes the cost of living here roughly similar to Bangkok, Buenos Aires, Taipei and Dubai. Luxembourg was cheaper than Frankfurt and Brussels but more expensive than Bahrain and Doha.
The priciest locations in the survey were Singapore, Zurich, Hong Kong, Geneva and 5th placed Paris. The lowest were Chennai, Karachi, Mumbai, Bangalore and 133rd ranked Lusaka.
The EIU publishes its index twice a year for expats and business travelers; this version was released on Thursday.
