He joined Pinsent Masons as a trainee. Thirty-one years later, John Maciver was to become the firm’s senior partner. The international law firm announced his appointment to this role on 30 July. Currently a partner in the finance practice and global head of the financial services sector, he will take up his new role on 1 October. He will succeed Andrew Masraf, who has led the firm for four years.
John Maciver joined Pinsent Masons in 1995 and began his career in Scotland before moving to London. Returning to the firm in 2008, he helped to develop its finance, restructuring and investment funds practices. Pinsent Masons also credits him with playing a role in integrating legal technology into its services for the financial sector.
Under his leadership, this sector has recorded growth of over 20% over the last two financial years, according to figures released by the firm. John Maciver intends to continue investing in staff and technology, with the stated aim of developing Pinsent Masons’ priority markets.
The change comes after Andrew Masraf’s 33-year career with the firm. He took over as head of Pinsent Masons in 2022. During his tenure, the firm notably opened offices in Riyadh, Shenzhen and Warsaw, as well as an international service centre in Cape Town.
This appointment covers the entire network, including the Luxembourg office, headed by Michel Bulach. He also heads the firm’s local practice specialising in banking, finance and insurance. In Luxembourg, the firm has further strengthened its fund-related business. In early July, it recruited Jennifer Burr as legal director within its Investment Funds team. Ms Burr has over 15 years’ experience and has previously worked in the investment funds department of the Financial Sector Supervisory Commission.
