With a value of €50, these accommodation vouchers can be used in all establishments in the country: hotels, campsites, youth hostels.

However, only 15% have been consumed, according to the latest figures from last week. In detail, out of 700,000 vouchers distributed, only 107,198 vouchers have been used.

“This can be explained by the closure of the hotel and catering industry,” says François Koepp, secretary general of the catering federation Horesca. “If we had been open in December, many more people would have used the vouchers.”

Koepp nevertheless welcomes the decision as a positive signal for the hotel industry, especially in the countryside. “It's a good decision,” he continues. “A very good choice. But it was also a request of the Horesca, as the sector was closed during the last extension of the vouchers. This decision will especially help the country hotel industry more than the downtown hotel industry.”
