The recruitment process which looked at candidates from other countries began in October 2021. After a consultation with the University Council, the board of governors of the university decided that Professor Kreisel will head the university after Rector Pallage’s term ends on 31 December 2022.
Currently the university’s vice-rector, Professor Kreisel has had a remarkable career in education and research, having spent time in Lyon and Grenoble, followed by a period at Oxford and Warwick after which he was awarded the Programme Excellence Award for Research in Luxembourg (Pearl) in 2013. He headed the Materials Research and Technology (MRT) department at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (List) before taking up the position of vice-rector of the University of Luxembourg in 2018.
