Presented in Canach on Thursday 30 October, the first Twiliner coach marks a new step for sustainable long-distance mobility in Europe. The result of a partnership between the Emile Weber group and Swiss start-up Twiliner, this overnight vehicle promises to combine comfort, innovation and environmental responsibility.

A European first was held on Thursday 30 October at the Emile Weber group site in Canach. In the presence of the Minister for Mobility, Yuriko BackesYuriko Backes, the Luxembourg company and Swiss start-up Twiliner presented the first long-distance coach designed for night travel. Twiliner’s teams were present, including its CEO, Luca Bortolani, as well as the Emile Weber group’s management attaché and Twiline’s strategy & commercial advisor, Philippe Heinisch.

Bringing together design, durability and technology, the vehicle aims to be a credible alternative to air transport over long distances. “Twiliner coaches are designed to offer a unique travel experience, as sustainable as a train, as comfortable as a business class flight and as flexible as a bus,” the company sums up. Certified by MyClimate, these journeys have a carbon footprint of 24g of CO₂ per kilometre and per passenger, compared with 276g for a flight, a reduction of around 91%.

Thirty or so destinations within three years

The Emile Weber Group, a strategic partner and pioneering investor in the project, will operate the first European line from November, linking Zurich to Amsterdam, with stops in Luxembourg, Basel and Rotterdam. A second route to Barcelona will follow at the end of the year, before a wider roll-out targeting around thirty destinations over the next three years. “

On board, passengers will discover 21 business class seats, spread over two levels, and a layout designed for relaxation: personal space, a spacious toilet, coffee machine, fridge and luggage compartment. In this way, Twiliner aims to offer a top-of-the-range travel experience, but one that is more respectful of the environment.
