Are holidays for you a long time in the planning or do they happen a whim? Where do you go?
Seohee Min: Often times it is on a whim, but I do have some specific destinations in mind that I’ve been thinking about for a long time. I don’t have any specific holidays planned for now, but for our honeymoon (we got married just one month ago), I would love to go to either South Africa or South America to see wild penguins.
How do you choose your destinations?
I sometimes find promotions on the websites of airlines I fly with, or places that are practical wherever I’m playing concerts.
How many days do you consider a holiday to be worthwhile?
Three days without the violin.
Is disconnecting difficult? Are you successful? How?
I actually don’t find it very difficult to disconnect as long as I am in good company. I don’t have any social media, it makes disconnection a lot easier!
What is the most vacation-friendly activity for you? A holiday ritual or habit?
Discovering the local cuisine.
What is your best holiday memory?
A few years ago, I had a tough period for some months and my boyfriend (now husband) and I decided to take a quick long weekend in Budapest--it lasted only three days, and the weather wasn’t even great, but that holiday gave me so much energy and strength to come out of this period.
Do you prefer active or relaxing holidays?
Active. I love taking walks and discovering new cities/neighbourhoods.
What’s your best trick to unwind?
Look up recipes, cook some nice food and eat it while watching some shows on Netflix .
Something you can’t afford on vacation?
Setting up an alarm to wake up in the morning.
Do you follow the news while on holiday?
Yes, sort of.
How do you prepare your holiday budget?
I set aside a certain small amount every month.
Your worst story or a lesson learned on holiday?
I had already asked my Airbnb for a late checkout and they said yes--and I left the apartment quickly to throw out the trash. When I went back, I realised the digicode had already been changed and I was locked out with all of my belongings inside including my phone. I also had a flight to take in the early evening on the same day. I panicked and then I proceeded to knock on the neighbours’ doors without any concrete idea--and then I got extremely lucky with one neighbour who worked for a social media company who was able to find my Airbnb’s hosts’ contact info by using their profile photo. I eventually could get back into the apartment, and I made it to my flight… I guess a big lesson from that episode is to always carry my phone!
The first thing you usually do when you get home?
I usually take a shower and just try to relax from the traveling.
Where in Luxembourg do you feel you're on holiday?
I love taking a leisurely walk in the Kinekswiss park with a cup of coffee.
