The countdown has begun for the 684th Schueberfouer. From 21 August to 9 September, the country’s largest funfair will bring together 214 stalls on the Glacis field, featuring four new rides, ten returning attractions and a host of entertainment. Here’s an overview of the main new additions and highlights of this year’s event.

The Schueberfouer is set to return to the Glacis grounds. Unveiled during a press conference on Thursday, 30 July, by Patrick Goldschmidt Patrick Goldschmidt (DP), alderman of the City of Luxembourg, the highlights of this 684th edition will accompany the return of the country's largest funfair. From 21 August to 9 September, the event will bring together 214 attractions and concessions, including four new rides, ten returning attractions, as well as a renewed selection of food outlets and retail stands.

The official opening will take place on Friday 21 August at 5.00 pm, in the presence of the mayor of the City of Luxembourg, Lydie PolferLydie Polfer (DP), ahead of the traditional ‘Ham a Kuch’. Founded in 1340 by John the Blind, the Schueberfouer keeps alive a tradition dating back nearly seven centuries in the heart of the capital.

The 2026 edition once again strikes a balance between new attractions and classic favourites. “We have a whole host of new rides coming. There are, of course, a number of returning attractions as well,” emphasises the first deputy mayor of the City of Luxembourg, Maurice BauerMaurice Bauer (CSV).

Four new rides on the programme

Four new attractions will make their debut on the Glacis. Visitors will be able to step aboard Dr Archibald – Master of Time, an immersive ghost train combining themed sets, special effects and virtual reality. Thrill-seekers can also experience King Loop, a high-speed ride featuring spins and full loops, as well as Skater, a giant pendulum ride that swings high into the air while rotating. Finally, the family roller coaster Wilde Maus will return after several years away, a comeback that the City has included among this year's new attractions.

An expanded range for food lovers

The Schueberfouer isn’t just about the fairground rides, and the new additions aren’t limited to the attractions. The food and drink offering is also being enhanced with the arrival of Paella by King Kong, which will introduce visitors to its Spanish specialities.

Three new businesses are also joining the fair: Haribo, Handy Paradies and Helium Ballons, bringing the total number of participants to 214, including 56 food and drink outlets and 29 retail outlets.

Ten attractions are making a comeback

Several attractions that have been absent in recent years will be making a comeback at the Glacis site. Visitors will once again be able to enjoy Thriller, Techno Power, Rotor, Flipper, Jules Verne Tower, Starlight, Circus Circus, Happy Sailor, Magic Crêpes, as well as Cuir Artisanal Loedts.

“There’s a whole host of new features, and I think we’ll see all the regulars who’ve been coming for many years and who are also key to the success of this Schueberfouer,” says Maurice Bauer.

214 establishments spread over 4.44 hectares

As in previous years, the Schueberfouer will cover an area of 4.44 hectares on the Glacis field. “The area remains the same. We’re restricted by traffic and the tram. There’s no way to make it any bigger, but we’re organising things so that there’s room for everyone,” explains Maurice Bauer.

A total of 214 stalls will be set up at the fair. They will feature attractions, games, shops and food and drink outlets. Operators from Luxembourg make up the largest group with 92 establishments, ahead of those from France (55), Germany (43), Belgium (21) and the Netherlands (3).

The programme will include, in particular, 38 major fairground rides, 11 restaurants, 42 savoury food outlets, 18 sweet treats outlets, 21 games stalls, 15 shooting galleries, 7 games rooms and 40 street stalls.

Nearly 2 million visitors are expected

As it does every year, the City is expecting around 2 million visitors. “Every year, we have an average of around 2 million people attending the Schueberfouer,” says Maurice Bauer. “It’s a very important event for local businesses, but also for the City of Luxembourg. It’s important for the whole country,” adds the first deputy mayor.

Reinforced tram and accessibility features

As it does every year, the City is encouraging visitors to use public transport. Throughout the Schueberfouer, the tram will run until around 2am, with services every five to ten minutes. A special shuttle bus will also run between the Bouillon Park-and-Ride and the Glacis, whilst the AVL, RGTR and CFL networks will be increasing their services.

The main park-and-ride facilities will remain open, and the City will continue to provide its services for families and people with reduced mobility. The ‘Lost Children’ service, accessible via MyGuichet.lu, will allow parents to register their children’s details before their visit. A first-aid team from the CGDIS will be on duty every day until the fair closes.

The sorting of organic waste, glass, paper and packaging will also continue for fairground operators, whilst the interactive ashtrays (‘voting bins’) will make a comeback to encourage the recycling of cigarette ends.
