According to that wonderful fount of knowledge Wikipedia, critics have often commented on choreographer Shen Wei’s innovative blend of Asian and Western sensibilities, as well as his syncretic approach to performance art. He uses an assortment of media elements, including painting, sound, sculpture, theatre and video in his work.

He comes to the Grand Théâtre with two of his most acclaimed pieces. “Map” uses Steve Reich’s Desert Music for a circular themed dance that has been called “wonderfully whimsical” and “endlessly inventive” by The Washington Post, while “Folding” is a mesmerizing, subtle and slow work.

There will be two performances at the Grand Théâtre, with tickets for the first show, Wednesday 11 May at 8 p.m., already selling fast. The second show is Thursday 11 May at 8.p.m.
