Luxair is revising its timetable for flights to the United Arab Emirates. The Luxembourg-based airline announced on 31 August that it was postponing the resumption of its seasonal service to Dubai until 6 February 2027. Meanwhile, the launch of its new route between Luxembourg and Abu Dhabi, originally scheduled for October 2026, has been postponed until the end of 2027.
Luxair cites “ongoing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East” and their impact on travel to the United Arab Emirates and the wider region. For Dubai, which the airline already serves, services are now scheduled to resume during the Carnival holidays next February. However, this date remains subject to developments in the regional situation and to the safety and security conditions necessary for the route to operate.
The delay is more significant for Abu Dhabi. Luxair had planned to add this new destination to its network this autumn, with a strong focus on leisure and package holidays. Its launch has now been postponed until the end of 2027, with no more specific date available at this stage. The airline is awaiting greater clarity on the regional situation before finalising its new timetable.
What this means for travellers
From 1 September, Luxair is due to contact customers affected by these changes. The airline is offering various options for a full refund on affected bookings. Travellers who were planning to fly to Dubai with Luxair this autumn will therefore have to wait until at least 6 February 2027, provided that the resumption of flights is confirmed.
A direct flight to Abu Dhabi from Luxembourg is nevertheless still scheduled to commence this autumn. Etihad Airways is set to launch its route between Findel Airport and the capital of the United Arab Emirates on 21 October, with four flights a week operated by Airbus A321LR aircraft on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Beyond the Emirati capital, the Abu Dhabi hub is set to provide access to Bangkok, the Maldives, Tokyo, Osaka, Shanghai, Shenzhen and several Australian destinations, with announced connection times generally ranging from one to three hours.
The postponement comes a few days after the presentation of the first two Boeing 737-8s owned by Luxair. They form part of a fleet renewal programme worth over one billion euros, which includes 12 new-generation Boeing aircraft and also includes Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.
Luxair has stated that it will review its services to Dubai and Abu Dhabi later this year. In particular, the airline will monitor geopolitical developments, the aviation operating environment, and market and booking trends before adjusting its plans for 2027, if necessary.
