The new Coradia trains, acquired by CFL, will join the rail network from mid-October. One year after the first trains entered service, 14 are already running in Luxembourg. A total of 34 models built by Alstom will be deployed by the end of 2026, increasing capacity by 46%.

CFL's new Coradia trains are continuing to be deployed on the Luxembourg network. Since the first train set entered service on 29 September 2024, 14 trains of this model have already been in service, each offering 334 seats. 34 trainsets built by Alstom in Barcelona will be brought into service by the end of 2026. This €400 million investment will increase the network's capacity by 46%, to keep pace with the steady rise in ridership.

On 7 October, a delegation from CFL travelled to Barcelona to visit the Alstom factory and take stock of production, which was launched in 2018 after the order was signed. Two major milestones will mark the continuation of the programme: the entry into service, in mid-October 2025, of the Coradia 2400 series trains in multiple-unit configuration, capable of accommodating up to 1,002 passengers per trainset, followed by the entry into service of the 2450 series, in December 2025, in six-car composition offering 692 seats. "The success of a project like this undeniably relies on our in-house expertise and that of our supplier, but above all on the strong relationship that unites CFL and Alstom," emphasises CFL's Director of Passenger Activities, Sophie Lacour.

In the Spanish workshops, each train follows a complete production chain: assembly, wiring, insulation, painting, testing and inspections. "Coradia regional trains, which have already won over a number of railway companies in Europe, are making a daily contribution to democratising sustainable, modern mobility that is accessible to all," stresses Bernard Belvaux, Managing Director of Alstom Benelux. Since 2018, a dedicated team of around ten people has been piloting this programme for CFL, at the heart of European industrial cooperation.
