The Italian banking group's Luxembourg subsidiary specialising in corporate and investment banking will obtain systemic bank status from 1 January 2026, the year of its fiftieth anniversary in the Grand Duchy. This change marks a new stage in Intesa Sanpaolo's local development.

The Luxembourg subsidiary of the Intesa Sanpaolo group will join the select circle of banks deemed to be of systemic importance in Luxembourg at the beginning of 2026 - and it will be the first Italian bank to do so.

This status, awarded on the basis of a European methodology, applies to institutions whose size, cross-border activities and interconnections make them essential players for the stability of the national financial system. It entails enhanced capital, governance and risk management requirements.

For Intesa Sanpaolo Bank Luxembourg, which in 2026 will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in the Grand Duchy on 2 June, this recognition crowns half a century of anchoring and continuous growth. And its commitment to continuing this strengthening of its presence within the economic and financial fabric of Luxembourg.

Net banking income shows its evolution very well: from 156 million euros in 2016, it has risen to 274 million euros in 2024 and are expected to exceed 300 million euros.

Invited to react to this designation, the bank had not returned to us at the time of publishing this article.
