The independent asset management firm Carmignac has announced the launch of Carmignac Portfolio Tech Solutions, an equity fund that aims to capitalise on opportunities in the information technology sector.

Carmignac has launched a new tech fund, the asset management firm announced in a press release issued on 16 July 2024. A société d’investissement à capital variable (investment company with variable capital, Sicav) domiciled in Luxembourg, the equity fund will invest in companies that are active in domains such as software, computer manufacturing, communication equipment, semiconductors and IT services.

The fund, which is an actively managed Ucits and uses a blended approach, is managed by Kristofer Barrett, manager of the global equity strategy, Carmignac Investissement and co-manager of the flexible multi-asset strategy, Carmignac Patrimoine. “Our technology fund is designed to capture today the growth of tomorrow by investing sustainably in companies with superior management creating indispensable products, driving innovation and providing solutions for a changing world,” Barrett commented in the firm’s communiqué.

Carmignac Portfolio Tech Solutions uses a “socially responsible approach” by using positive and negative screening to identify companies that fit their criteria, noted the press release. The fund is categorised as an article 9 fund under the EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation. This means it has a sustainable investment objective (compared to article 8 funds, which promote environmental and/or social characteristics, and article 6 funds, which do not have any sustainability criteria).

Founded by Edouard Carmignac and Eric Helderlé in 1989, Carmignac counts €32.4bn of assets under management and 285 staff members as of 30 June 2024.
