The news had leaked to the press last April, just as the Spuerkeess was presenting its annual report. The news had not been confirmed at the time, as the bank’s senior management did not wish to interfere with the authorisation process that the successor to Françoise Thoma. Benoît Elvinger has therefore passed his major oral examination before the ECB.

Benoît Elvinger holds a master’s degree from Paris-Panthéon-Assas University and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia (UVA). Since 2015, he has been a member of the executive committee of Banque de Luxembourg, where he is responsible for trading and financing activities. He is also a member of the board of directors of the Luxembourg Stock Exchange (LuxSE), where he serves alongside Françoise Thoma, who is the vice-chair.

He will take up his post on 1 October. Doris Engel, currently a member of the executive committee and chief financial officer, will become deputy chief executive on the same date.
