The CEO of California-based Apple, Tim Cook, announced on Wednesday 6 August at a White House event his company’s commitment to invest an additional $100bn in the United States, totalling $600bn over four years.

“We are committing to an additional $100bn of investment in the United States, bringing our total investment in the country to $600bn over four years.” The words are from Apple CEO Tim Cook, who spoke at an event at the Oval Office on Wednesday 6 August.

Cook also announced the launch of a programme to manufacture “strategic components found in Apple products around the world” in the US. Already this year, American manufacturers are on track to manufacture 19bn chips for Apple in 24 factories in 12 states. Investment in artificial intelligence will also be stepped up.

A response to US president Donald Trump’s ever-increasing tariffs on imports--the new ones taking effect from this Thursday morning. “We will continue to invest here in America. We’re going to continue to hire in America,” said the CEO of Apple, at a time when the US president is threatening to impose a 100% tariff on the imports of electronic chips.
