Prof. Dr. Jens Kreisel took office as rector of the University of Luxembourg on 1 January 2023.
Jens Kreisel obtained in 1999 his PhD in materials physics at the Grenoble Institute of Technology. After a post-doc at the University of Oxford, he continued his international career in Grenoble where he was until 2011 Director of Research at CNRS. From 2006 to 2011, he also acted as advisor to the President and then as Deputy Vice-President in the senior management team of Grenoble INP.
From 2011 to 2012, he was a Fellow of the Institute of Advanced Studies of Warwick University. In 2012, Jens Kreisel became the Founding Director of the Materials Research and Technology department at the LIST.
From 2018 to 2022, he was appointed Vice-Rector for research at the University of Luxembourg and Full Professor in Physics and Materials Science.

Jens Kreisel est professeur en physique et science des matériaux, et recteur de l'Université du Luxembourg depuis le 1er janvier 2023. Né en Allemagne, il a obtenu en 1999 son doctorat en physique des matériaux à l'Institut national polytechnique de Grenoble (Grenoble INP-UGA). Après un post-doc à l'Université d'Oxford, il a poursuivi sa carrière internationale à Grenoble. Il occupe plusieurs fonctions stratégiques au sein de l'équipe de direction de Grenoble INP, et est nommée directeur de la recherche au CNRA en 2009. Il a été membre de l'Institute of Advanced Studies – des laboratoires de recherche qui promeuvent la recherche interdisciplinaire et internationale - à l'Université de Warwick. En 2012, Jens Kreisel arrive au Luxembourg en tant que directeur fondateur du département Recherche et technologie des matériaux du LIST. Il rejoint l’Université du Luxembourg en 2018 en tant que vice-recteur à la recherche et est nommé recteur en 2022.

Jens Kreisel promovierte 1999 in Materialphysik am Grenoble Institute of Technology. Nach einem Postdoc-Aufenthalt an der University of Oxford setzte er seine internationale Karriere in Grenoble fort, wo er bis 2011 Forschungsdirektor am CNRS war. Von 2006 bis 2011 war er außerdem als Berater des Präsidenten und anschließend als stellvertretender Vizepräsident in der Geschäftsleitung des INP Grenoble tätig.
Von 2011 bis 2012 war er Fellow des Institute of Advanced Studies der Universität Warwick. Im Jahr 2012 wurde Jens Kreisel Gründungsdirektor der Abteilung Materialforschung und -technologie am LIST.
Von 2018 bis 2022 wurde er zum Vizerektor für Forschung an der Universität Luxemburg und zum ordentlichen Professor für Physik und Materialwissenschaften ernannt.
