Distilling his communication sparingly but with total freedom of tone, Gaston Reinesch is a key figure in the country's public life. A graduate of the London School of Economics and visiting professor at the University of Luxembourg, he was for a long time the discreet but effective Director General of the Ministry of Finance. In this capacity, he chaired a number of boards of directors of companies in which the State was a shareholder (BGL BNP Paribas, SNCI, Post Luxembourg). Winner of the Paperjam Top 100 most influential economic decision-makers in 2012, he has been Governor of the Banque centrale du Luxembourg since 2013, and in this capacity, among others, sits on the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB).
