The EU AI Act is the EU regulation introducing a horizontal framework for the commercialisation, deployment, and use of AI solutions in the EU. However, it is not a comprehensive set of AI regulation in itself, as other fields of the law (IP, data protection, NIS2 and, for the financial sector, DORA) continue to play an important role.

This presentation will focus on a general overview of the main points stemming from the EU AI Act, starting with the varying rules and required governance in function of the criticality of the AI solution.

Participants will learn the reasons and origins of the regulation, as well as the legal framework explained on a high-level basis. This will translate the obligations and what they mean for the developers and providers of AI solutions, deployers and users, both from a regulatory and contractual perspective.

The presentation will also focus on giving an overview of the current ecosystem in Luxembourg as well as how the EU AI Act interacts with other fields of the law such as data protection (GDPR), IP (copyright protection of AI input and output), outsourcing & ICT risk regulations (including NIS2 for critical sectors and DORA for the financial sector at large) and general liability.

Objectives:

- Understand what the EU AI Act is and the general legal framework for both the assets and services in its scope.

- Gain knowledge on how the EU AI Act resonates with other legislations.

- Take away key points for assuring an acceptable degree of compliance when providing, deploying or otherwise using AI solutions.
