What does it mean to tell stories about systems rather than symptoms?

Join us on 16 July for an evening of film screenings and discussion exploring the structures shaping today's ecological and social crises, as well as the alternatives already emerging around the world.

The programme includes two short documentaries:

- God Stumbled Here follows activists in South Africa's Magaliesberg mountain range as they fight to hold mining companies accountable and work to ensure that the well-being of nature and local communities takes precedence over extraction, greed and the accumulation of wealth.

- Wakulima Wadogo tells the story of a fourteen-year-old girl in Kenya who exchanges her family's herd for a garden while adapting to climate disruption and pursuing her ambition of becoming a lawyer.

Following the screenings, Afsaneh Rafii, Editor-in-Chief of Icarus Complex, will moderate a discussion with Ecuadorian documentary photographer and sociologist Daniela Beltrán and Senegambian writer Yatou Sallah. Together, they will explore the role of storytelling in addressing extraction, land, and the futures emerging beyond dominant systems.
