The screening, organised by the Network, marks the start of the international “Orange the World” campaign to tackle violence against women.

The Network, a Luxembourg-based professional women’s association, is organising a film screening at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg-Limpertsberg on Wednesday 13 November 2024 at 18:00.

“Breathing Underwater” is being screened to mark the start of the international “Orange the World” campaign, an initiative of UN Women, which kicks off each year on 25 November (International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women), says The Network in a press release. “The chosen film is an emotional drama that tells the story of Emma, who arrives at a shelter for women in distress in the middle of the night. In this new environment, Emma rediscovers facets of herself that she had buried, thanks to the bonds and unlikely friendships she forms with a group of women and children. Their individual traumas intertwine, and despite their differences, a delicate sisterhood emerges, driving them all to fight to regain their dignity and independence.”

A Q&A session is planned with members of the filmmaking team, including the director and the main actress. The ambassadors of Romania and Cape Verde to Luxembourg, and Ana Pinto, the president of the association La Voix des Survivantes, will also be present.

This event is free for members of The Network and €20 for non-members. The event is open to men as well as women. Find more info and register on the page.
