Luxembourg’s traditional Emaischen pottery market returns this Easter Monday after pandemic pause, with events in the capital and the town of Nospelt.

The market is an opportunity to buy a Péckvillchen, a bird-shaped clay whistle not unlike an ocarina.

The oldest written records on the Emaischen in Luxembourg City date back to 1827. These appear to show that a mass was celebrated at the St Michel church on Easter Monday in honour of the potters' guild, who would sell their wares outside.

This year’s market starts at 8am and continues until 5pm. There is folk dancing, food and drink around the historic city centre. For more details about the even in the capital, visit

The event in Nospelt has a much more recent history and started in the 1950s. But the town has long been a centre of pottery-making in the grand duchy and Péckvillerchen from Nospelt are also sold in Luxembourg City. The market in Nospelt starts at 10am with a last shuttle bus leaving the site at 8pm. For more details, visit the
