Alan Dundon tells Delano why he still has a blotter calendar from 2016 in this instalment of “”.

Dundon is an executive at Alter Domus, a fund services provider specialised in the alternative investment space, and leads the industry trade group L3A. He occupies a shared corner office on the ninth floor of Alter Domus’s tower in Cloche d’Or. However, with widespread teleworking, all four officemates have not been in the office all together for quite some time.

Here is some of what Delano saw when it visited Dundon’s office in late January:

Dundon “always has” this pair of framed pictures on his desk. The photo on the right, of his three children, was taken during a 2012 family vacation in Hawaii. The photo on the left was taken when the family returned four years later and took a new portrait at the exact same place. Dundon said these are his two favourite pictures of his kids.

Yes, it’s a calendar from 2016. “I don’t like to waste paper,” Dundon explained. “Why throw it out when it’s still perfectly good?” He takes notes on this blotter when he’s on the phone. It has served him well, but “I’m nearly at the end.”

Dundon does have a current calendar on his desk. He receives one every year from a former client, now a friend, who lives in Hong Kong.

The morning of Delano’s visit, Dundon was working on a client presentation, which he would deliver in-person that afternoon. It was his “second face-to-face client meeting in two years.” Dundon temporarily “robbed” the phone charger seen on the left from his immediate office neighbour, who was teleworking. Also seen is a company magazine and this morning’s coffee.

At Fideos, which Alter Domus acquired in 2011, “each partner had to sponsor a value,” he explained. “I sponsored teamwork,” a value that this small sculpture represents. It’s a “good reminder” of that value, he said.

Dundon has an adjustable desk. He often stands during the morning, which he said is good for calls. He’s more likely to switch to sitting during the afternoon. “That’s an option that I don’t have at home.”
