Fund service provider Vistra has announced the appointment of Abdel Hmitti as its managing director and global head of funds.

Vistra-- late last year--has a staff of 9,000 who operate across some 50 jurisdictions. Joining their ranks as managing director and global head of funds is Abdel Hmitti, who had been with State Street since 2007.

According to Hmitti’s LinkedIn page, he relocated from New York to Luxembourg in January 2024 to take up the role. A press release from 20 February 2024 indicates, however, that he will soon relocate (back) to the US.

The position entails leading Vistra’s funds business and managing several teams, including those working on product development, digital solutions and commercial relationship management.

Hmitti will report to William Douglas, chief commercial officer. “We are thrilled to welcome Abdel as managing director and head of this vital business area,” says Douglas in the press release. “He will be an invaluable leader in guiding the development of new services and offerings to further support our clients. We’re also excited about Abdel's plans to relocate to the US later this year to expand our funds solutions in this critical market.”

Says Hmitti: “Vistra is at a momentous time in its growth journey and has ambitious targets for the years ahead. Since joining, I have already seen how Vistra’s global fund, M&A and SPV [special purpose vehicle] capabilities facilitate the rapid deployment of private capital worldwide, ultimately helping clients achieve their fund growth goals. I’m delighted to be joining the team now and contributing my expertise to further expand Vistra’s innovative funds business.”

At State Street, Hmitti was most recently head of private markets in EMEA, focusing on middle- and back-office operations and relationship management.
