Two Luxembourg co-productions are making their debut at Cannes: a drama titled “Un simple accident” in the official competition and an animated film, “Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol,” in the special screening category.

The 2025 edition of the Cannes Film Festival is getting off to a promising start for Luxembourg. Two co-productions supported by Bidibul Productions, an emblematic company on the Luxembourg film scene, are featured in the official selection of the festival’s 78th edition.

The film “Un simple accident” (“A Simple Accident”) by Iranian director Jafar Panahi is in the running for the Palme d’Or. This co-production between Bidibul Productions (Christel Henon and Lilian Eche) and several international partners is already shaping up to be one of the highlights of the competition.

At the same time, the animated feature film “Marcel et Monsieur Pagnol” (“The Magnificent Life of Marcel Pagnol”) by French filmmaker Sylvain Chomet will be presented in the special screening category. This poetic project pays tribute to the world of playwright and filmmaker Marcel Pagnol through the eyes of “Little Marcel”--the child he used to be--and retraces his journey marked by the history of the 20th century and the evolution of cinema.

The animated film was largely brought to Luxembourg by Lilian Eche, in collaboration with Doghouse Studio (who was responsible for the layout, sets and 2D animation) and Philophon (responsible for sound post-production).

From 13 to 22 May, the Film Fund Luxembourg will be actively representing the country on the Croisette with a dedicated pavilion in the international village. It will bring together around 20 structures--producers, studios, post-production and technology experts--but also cultural players such as the Luxembourg City Film Festival, European Audiovisual Entrepreneurs (EAVE) or Europe Créative-Media.

The traditional Luxembourg Day will take place on 17 May in the presence of culture minister  (DP) and numerous industry professionals.
