The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has just kicked off! Read about the three Luxembourg productions that have gone up to Scotland to participate.

In 2023, over 3,500 shows were staged at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival--for which 2.45m tickets were issued--and these numbers were still down by about 20% compared to pre-pandemic numbers.

Suffice it to say: it’s a major event.

This year’s edition runs from 2-26 August and, with the support of Kultur | lx, Luxembourg’s Arts Council, three theatre and dance productions from the grand duchy are taking part. Let’s meet them.

The Passion of Andrea 2

Don’t worry if you haven’t seen The Passion of Andrea 1. There is no such thing.

“Masquerading as a sequel to an earlier, non-existent version of itself,” , The Passion of Andrea 2 is a mischievous con artist of a dance piece about feelings of uneasiness, the inability to fully understand and the painful desire for more. In a whirlwind of tours de force as skilful as frivolous, three figures in curly wigs are propelled through odd loops of burlesque scenes and increasingly disconcerting worlds of impossibilities.”

Created by Simone Mousset.

Daily, 13-25 August 2024 (excluding 19 August), 7:00pm, at The Assembly (Dance Base – Studio 1).

The Hidden Garden

Drawing inspiration from a gothic novel but also modern customs, The Hidden Garden blends fact and fantasy and promises to fascinate.

“Growing up,” writes Kultur | lx, “we lose the ability to live in connection with our mind. We become increasingly preoccupied by what is useful. The desire for power, control and perfection. Man becomes comparable to a supernatural creature. Obsessed, this creature sucks the life out of those who dare to confront it. Dreams, simple pleasures and poetry are suffocated.”

Daily, 13-26 August 2024 (excluding 19 August), 3:35pm, at Summerhall – TechCube0.

Negare

Plunge brain-first into the self--yourself, another self--in this choreographic solo.

“Giovanni Zazzera invites you to immerse yourself for a short time in the discovery of a curious and atypical character,” says Kultur | lx, “who will transport you to his absurd and poetic universe where negation is confronted with convictions, thus creating in the opposition a journey of transformation and metamorphosis of bodies.”

Created by Giovanni Zazzera; part of the Credere Triptych series.

Daily, 12-25 August 2024 (excluding 19 August), 2:40pm, at C ARTS | C venues | C aquila.
