Don’t refer to the EX90 as being overweight--Volvo might take that the wrong way! Above all, its 2.4 tonnes will be forgotten from the very first acceleration, when the speedometer goes from 0 to 100km/h in less than five seconds, thanks to an aerodynamic drag coefficient of just 0.29 coupled to 517hp of power.

Obviously, if you bought the seven-seater model to accommodate seven passengers, you’d be better off not pressing the accelerator too hard... Neither for the driving experience nor for the range, posted at 625km maximum and with a very honest 30-minute recharge to go from 10 to 80%. But if you’ve bought this electric model packed with assistance technologies, including the Lidar above the roof that takes the car to level 3 range (out of 5), let’s hope you’ve taken the trouble to test the installation of the two youngest in the third row of seats. The second row has to be folded down and the seats moved forward. To sit in them, you need to be short (less than 1m70) and flexible.

And if you put seven passengers in the car, the boot will probably be a bit tight for suitcases, even with the device that lowers the tray to avoid breaking your back. With its milky grey colour, the EX90--priced at more than €115,000 for our test model--is a Volvo that, ten years on, is part of the brand’s DNA and even turns the heads of playboys in Porsches or mothers in Land Rovers. Which is to say that its weight, eh…
