Meet Joel Kieffer, a Luxembourg native with 25 years of experience in the financial services industry who recently joined Bank Julius Baer Europe as a relationship manager. Julius Baer Europe, headquartered in Luxembourg, now offers its wealth management capabilities to residents of the grand duchy.

Joel, tell us more about your professional background and what you are passionate about.

Joel Kieffer: I have worked with private and institutional clients for several decades. Before my commitment to the pure wealth management industry, I spent many years in the investment fund business, working with both large and boutique asset managers. Over the years, I have learnt to understand the importance and challenge of providing a compelling value proposition for the different needs and profiles. I am passionate about connecting like-minded people with similar interests and values, for which Luxembourg’s unique microcosm offers a dynamic environment. When I’m not working, you can find me on the golf course or in my kitchen, preparing culinary delights with my partner and our 9-year-old boy.

What drew you to Julius Baer in the first place?

’s long-standing heritage as a Swiss wealth manager. From the outside, I have always perceived Julius Baer as a player with best-in-class wealth management capabilities for entrepreneurs and families. I’m excited to be part of this journey, serving a highly sophisticated group of clients with unique expectations. Ultimately, this is what I aim to provide to our clients in Luxembourg.

In your opinion, what are these sophisticated clients looking for?

Our clients require personalised care and highly professional solutions, according to their sometimes very complex needs and environments. Wealthy families are increasingly focusing on capital growth but also on strengthening the financial education of the next generation.

At the same time, family governance is being approached much more professionally, with decisions that are not just financially justified but also in line with the long-term vision of the family and its identity. The most far-sighted Luxembourgish families anticipate changes and structure their assets in a sustainable and strategic way that goes beyond than the usual economic cycles. Such an effective and contemporary asset management combines investment performance with strategic planning, solid governance and a flexible approach to geopolitical and fiscal developments. And it will result in a clear roadmap for the future, transparency for all parties involved and, ultimately, the certainty that the standard of living of the family or generation handing over the business is secured in the long term.

What do you think sets Julius Baer apart from another player?

I believe Julius Baer as a pure-play wealth manager is uniquely positioned to support its clients in this increasingly complex space. With over 130 years of experience in wealth management, this is what we do best: provide you with comprehensive support and customised solutions.
