Luxembourg has expelled a diplomat from the Russian embassy, the foreign ministry said on Wednesday, following six other EU countries that have kicked out Russian officials.

Foreign minister Jean Asselborn (LSAP) in a statement said the Russian diplomat is a “persona non grata” whose activities are contrary to the security interests of Luxembourg. The foreign ministry said its decision is part of a European approach.

The diplomat will have 15 days to leave the grand duchy.

Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Latvia, Estonia and Spain announced on 5 April that they would expel Russian diplomats for national security reasons. The number of representatives varies, with Italy set to kick out 30 diplomats and Spain sending out 25. Germany on 4 April said it would send 40 diplomats back to Russia, and France announced it would expel 35 officials.

Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Moscow will respond to the expulsions, speaking to state-owned news agency TASS.

The decision to expel diplomats comes after images of civilian bodies in Kyiv suburb Bucha were made public. Russia's foreign ministry has claimed these images are fake stating in a that has since been taken down that “not a single local resident has suffered from any violent action.”

The Russian embassy in Luxembourg lists six members of staff, including ambassador Dmitry Lobanov, on its website. The ministry did not reveal the identity of the person that was ordered to leave the country.
